Kansas City was never on the list of places to stop, but I'm glad
we did even if it was only briefly. At one point the station was one
of the largest in the US. Shortly after WWII as all the GI's returned
home it handled 270+ trains a day. Now it deals with just 7 trains a
day... |

Which is criminal really because it's a beautiful place, kind of
a cross between a ballroom and a museum. Now it's a science center and
entertainment venue with the remaining Amtrak operation hidden away in a
corner. |

Outside the station perched on a small hill there is the Liberty Monument, built to commemorate the return of peace after the First World War. This thing is absolutely immense, and further away than expected... |

...on either side of the main column are a pair of griffin, hiding their heads under their wings. |

The main center of the city is a short distance from the station, but we haven't got time to go exploring, we want to get to St Louis. |
