Looking Good (Well, Better At Least)

fojxl-logo-double.jpgFinally got round to changing the title of the blog to reflect the fact that it’s really being used as a blog proper now. (I’ve dropped the ‘wordpress test installation’ bit if you were wondering…) It’s no longer a test, it’s for real. I think I’ve proved to myself that it’ll do what I want it to do, and that tweaking the themes isn’t too onerous a task.

Speaking of which, I’ve been playing with the comments to make them look nicer. They had a distinctly half finished look about them. Take a look at them now. Pretty, huh? Other things of note are the navigation at the bottom of the page, which lets you get at older posts, something that was missing until recently. Also the title bar in your browser should have a more meaningful title now, it was kind of working but I seemed to be suffering from a case of extra ‘ยป’ now and then. All fixed now…

Hopefully this makes the site look a bit more pleasant and professional, let me know what you think…

Sub Nine Million Quancast Rating

Yes, there’s still a way to go to hit the top 40 but the movement is in the right direction. Seen as the site started down at about 9.25 million, to reach the heady heights of 8,926,723 is marginally impressive. Doubly so when you can count on the fingers of one hand the people who are actually visiting the site… Keep up the good work chaps…

Now With Added Internet Explorer Functionality…

browsers.pngThanks to some helpful remarks in the comments of the previous post, the site is no longer the zen version it was when viewed with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. (It might also explain why the logs showed that visitors to the site using IE only stayed a few seconds, should really have noticed that sooner…)

Just a few more tweaks to be made to the IE specific CSS and the site should look identical when viewed in either browser. Please, nobody mention Safari or Opera.

On the plus side it’s meant that I’ve had to clean up some of the other bits of code, and look into how to keep font sizes consistent across the different versions. So on the whole a good day, the site’s fitter than ever before and I’m back in touch with an old chum from uni. (Hello Bill!)

Donations Welcome Here

euro_coins_and_banknotes.jpgBeen getting to grips with WordPress ‘pages’ today. (As opposed to posts) Those of you who are still paying attention might have noticed that more of the links are working up by the header image. Namely HOME, ABOUT and DONATE all do what it says on the tin…

About is a bit thin at the moment, I’ll be adding to that at a later date, but the Donate page has a working PayPal button and an Amazon WishList, which I think is quite cool. Not that I’m expecting a huge rush on there. It’s just the fact that it’s so easy to interlink everything.

Talking of interlinking, it’s possible to push the blog posts to your Facebook page fairly easily, so I might do that at a later date.

If you have any comments about the layout fo the pages or the site in general I’d really like to hear them.

Landed Gentry Of The Internet Age

unionjack.jpgYesterday was a day of purchases. Feeling flush from the arrival of an employment opportunity, I splashed out on the domain names I wanted. So, now I’m the proud owner of a dotcom and a dotcodotuk (doesn’t have the same ring to it…)

There were a couple of mispellings that could be snapped up in the meantime, but I’m not throwing too much cash at this to begin with. That can wait till later. I also secured the domain details in such a way so that people can’t go on a fishing expedition to discover your personal details. Probably a wise move in these days of identity fraud.

Now I just need to get some content written for the main site, get it hosted, and off I go.

Wish me luck!
